  class="content" style="font-family: arial;">The use of animal assisted ther
 apy dates back hundreds of years. Famed nurse Florence Nightingale saw the v
 alue in animal assisted therapy, as did the York Retreat in London in the 17
 00s to help infirm patients. Oakland University’s Animal Assisted Therapy Ce
 rtificate program addresses several health and social issues, including an i
 ncreased need for alternative, innovative and holistic practices. Utilizing 
 animal assisted therapy in educational, therapeutic and health care settings
  benefit at-risk children and adolescents, the elderly and other special-nee

 mily: arial;">This program is supported by and listed under AAT on the <a hr
 ef="http://www.deltasociety.org/Page.aspx?pid=458">Delta Society</a> (the la

 gram is completely online with a couple of\nthe assignments involving meetin
 g with people in the field in your area\nand visiting an animal sanctuary, s
 helter, farm, etc. The program includes five consecutive 8-week modules in t
 he following areas:<br />\n<br />\n&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp
 ;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Module 1 – Intro to Animal
